while the roses were in bloom
Limited Edition
The construction of the cover breaks with the familiar movement of opening a book, leaving the reader to find a path into a secluded world where the passing of time can be sensed in the shifting light.

During a period when days were spent on the sofa and nights in bed, the summer light, the shadows moving across the wall and the colours that came and went throughout the day became a way of tracing time. Occasionally, it would be possible to get up, take a photograph and return to the sofa.

Each copy is handmade by the artist, while the interior is digitally printed. Printed with pigment inks on Baohong Masters 300 gsm, the cover is finished with hand-painted bronze edges. A pocket formed within the folds of the cover holds the interior. This reinforces the sense of a secluded world. The exposed binding is sewn with waxed silk thread using link stitch and kettle stitch.
Concept, photography, text and design by Madlén Palm.
